No bones about it, it's a tricky essay to read and understand.
So for your assignment this week, I'm asking you to use design to help yourself grasp this text.
For example, in The Medium is the Message, a much longer text was translated by McLuhan and Fiore into shorter text soundbites and image metaphors so that a larger audience could grasp the ideas.
But perhaps for you organizing the text into a diagram or a map would work better. Or annotating the text in a certain way. Maybe you just need a system for making notes and highlighting. Or putting together a Keynote presentation for yourself.
It doesn't need to be elaborate. We're not going to crit your design. In fact, I don't even care what it looks like. To be absolutely clear, I'm not asking you for a typographic interpretation. I only care that whatever you did allowed you to understand the text. Now, that's good design!
